Beef patty @ Mo’Bay Shack
551 Smithdown Rd, Wavertree, Liverpool, L15 5AF
On the bend just before Smithdown Road turns into Allerton Road is not somewhere I find myself very often of a lunchtime, which is a shame because that’s where Mo’Bay Shack is.
This Jamaican café serves a selection of Caribbean classics — jerk chicken, akee and saltfish, curry goat — as well as a selection of potent, proprietary rum punches.
It also has the best patties in Liverpool, in my opinion. Available in beef or vegan, meltingly soft filling, heavy on the cumin and allspice, wrapped in beautiful flaky suet pastry.
Take one away or eat it up at the window bar with an ice-cold bottle of beer. £5.50 for a patty and a Red Stripe; that’s a proper meal deal.
