Henan lamb noodle soup @ Forever Tasty
141 London Rd, Liverpool, L3 8JA
Whilst Chinatown is still home to a handful of long-established Cantonese restaurants (complete with separate English menus full of different varieties battered meat in sugary gloop) the new epicentre of Chinese cuisine in Liverpool is behind the Royal Hospital and at the heart of what they’re trying to brand the ‘Fabric District’
Forever Tasty is a one-room diner attached to a small and well-stocked Chinese supermarket of the same name. Their menu is mostly made up of hot pot and noodle dishes with some ‘dry’ sides — lamb skewers among them.
Very difficult to pick only one dish from here — but the Henan-style lamb noodles (wide, chewy, wheaten noodles served with braised lamb in a milky-coloured bone broth) are excellent. As are their Dan Dan noodles, which are heavy on the lip-numbing Sichuan pepper.
Very popular with Chinese university students, the restaurant only takes cash and has no alcohol license (though you can BYOB)
