Lamb skewers @ Shun Long Chinese BBQ

Firstly, a warning: you’re always rolling the dice as to whether this small Chinese BBQ place at the bottom of Mount Pleasant will be open or not.
I’ve walked past here on a Saturday evening and it’s been closed up, mid-morning on a Wednesday and it’s been open for business. My advice is: if you see the lights on, dive in and order yourself some lamb skewers.
There are a handful of other items on the menu, but really none of them measure up to the lamb skewers – small cubes of cumin dusted meat, some tender, some slightly chewier. Delicious and fantastic value (either £6 or £7, the menu in the window and the one on the table were in disagreement last time I visited).
Unfortunately there’s not much else to recommend this place. There’s nothing in the way of a ‘vibe’ and the only beer on offer is Budweiser, served bottled and warm. So, once you’ve shared – or not – one or two portions I’d head off elsewhere, up to the Dispensary or down to the Vines for a pint.
If Shun Long happens to be open on the way back you could always stop in for some more skewers.
