Raspberry pavlova ice cream @ Gelato Lark Lane

A very popular spot with people visiting nearby Sefton Park, it’s a rare Saturday or Sunday where Gelato doesn’t have a huge queue outside. And for good reason — this is top tier ice cream.
Like most ice cream shops at the moment, they sell waffles, milkshakes, cookie dough etc. All of it sprinkled in Kinder Bueno and dripping in biscoff spread. Can’t see the appeal; best ignored.
Instead go straight for their freshly made ice cream which is all delicious. They have the standard line-up (vanilla, chocolate, strawberry etc.) and then ‘premium’ flavours which are all 50p more expensive per serving. Why they’re premium, who knows — but this is where the good stuff is.
The pick here, for me, has to be either their excellent pistachio — so strongly nutty that it tastes almost savoury — or their raspberry pavlova. Fresh, almost sour, milk ice cream rippled with tart raspberry and studded with chewy meringue. Whatever you choose has to be in a waffle cone, chocolate dipped if possible. Only amateurs eat ice cream from a cup.
