Turkish fried eggs @ Bakesale, Bunch Wine Bar
50 Berry Street, Liverpool, L1 4JQ
Bakesale – home of Liverpool’s best butties and bakes – is back, popping up this time at the fantastic Bunch wine bar on Berry Street.
Having relocated from Arts Bar Baltic, she’s now focusing her culinary energies on the most important meal of the day.
I’d say the menu is like a greatest hits of breakfast and brunch, but it’s more like the second CD of remixes you get with a ‘best of’ collection – full of surprising, exciting new versions of the classics. Sharp green chilli oil on the smashed avocado, cavolo nero and salsa verde with the mushrooms on toast, pistachio brittle in the porridge.
And while the sausage, egg and cheese bagel here is the platonic ideal of a breakfast sandwich – greasy, dense, sweet and savoury – the pick for me has to be the Turkish fried eggs.
Perfect orange yolks, silky yoghurt and pools of melted chilli butter. Worth waking up early for (although thankfully the menu is available until mid-afternoon anyway).
If you can’t stop in for a sit-down plate then, while they last, there are fantastic pre-made sandwiches, cakes and biscuits available at the counter to take away.
